- We will be in school all day next Tuesday. I am looking at studying different winter holidays that are celebrated around the world next Monday and Tuesday.
- The lost and found is full. All items will be donated tomorrow if they are not claimed.
- The students needed to practice following directions, transitions, and getting ready for the end/beginning of the day during recess. I have given many kind warnings to help the students make choices that will support the learning of all. Many students were very upset with me, I kindly reminded them that it was not my choice to not follow directions. Simply, it was the classes choice to not follow through with the kind warnings. I am hoping this will help the students and we will have a great end to the 2015 school year and start 2016 off with a great start!
- I will be sending home assignments tomorrow for corrections. Students are given the opportunity to make corrections up until the end of the quarter and I encourage students to do so. I wanted to make sure each student is reading every night, completing their reading log, practicing their spelling, and their multiplication.
Lead21: Henry and the Kite Dragon
The students finished reading the story Henry and the Kite Dragon during reading today. The culture of a part of the Atlantic States was highlighted in this book as we learned about two parts of New York City, Little Italy and Chinatown. The students learned how children in Chinatown made kites out of rice paste and recycled newspaper. We also learned how many families in Little Italy have homing pigeons. In this story the two cultures were at odds with each other until they came up with a compromise. Check in with your student to determine the problem and solution we read in the book.
We are truly rocking out multiplication. We will review tomorrow and then take our chapter 2 and 3 test on Friday. I can tell students have been practicing their facts and the method of their choice for multiplying. The biggest area where students make a mistake is in adding all of the partial products. I have provided many students with graph paper as they were saying the workbook pages do not provide enough space to do you work. After using the graph paper, students were able to easily get the correct answers. I am very excited to see how everyone does on Friday!
Restraint System
The students continued working on their plan today for the car's restraint system that will keep their egg safe. We researched what other's have done in the past. Students found the evolution of how the seat belt was developed. The assignment notebook question is for the students to identify what they found in their research. If they forgot, have them research the history of a seatbelt. I hope you all have a wonderful night and I look forward to another great day of learning.
