We will be taking the NWEA test April 25th through 28th. We will be taking the SBAC tests the week of May 9th through May 13th. Please make sure your student has enough sleep during this week and gets a breakfast that will give them the energy they need to do well on the test.
Book Club Challenge
Students will have the opportunity to partake in a group-guided book club challenge the week of May 2nd. The students will be able to partake by completing the following steps:
1. Agree to be part of the challenge.
2. Complete their reading log by following the directions as outlined on the top of the Reading Log page.
3. Students will earn one point for every strategy correctly used. For example, if a student uses the correct format for a prediction by say I predict _____ because ____. they will get one point. All of my expectations are clearly outlined on the top of each Reading Log/ Book Club Challenge.
4. The students must earn 30 points by April 29th. The students have the possibility of earning 40 points during the next 2 weeks.
5. If the students earn 30 points, they will get to choose what book they will read and will be given a guide to follow with their group during independent reading time. Also, if a student takes part in a book club and follows through the the expected readings, they will get an automatic 100% for the reading log during the week of May2nd.
The students seemed very excited about this opportunity and were ready to start earning points for the challenge.
Animal Adaptations
The students were introduced to animal adaptations today during our reading rotations. Animal adaptations are a physical or behavioral characteristic of an animal that helps the animal survive in its environment. The students identified their own adaptations and then learned about other adaptations. Tomorrow, the students will learn more about the adaptations and will create their own animal based on an environment and an adaptation of their choice.
Types of Lines
The ancient lineologists said... Students were introduced to lines today by categorizing a given set of lines and learning what the ancient "lineologists" learned about lines. We learned that lines are categorized into three main areas: 1.) intersecting, 2.) parallel, and 3.) perpendicular. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to draw an example of each with an appropriate label. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
