The students started their big rig tour of the Southwest states. We have combined the states and capitals quiz for the West and Southwest as the Southwest only has 4 states and the West only has 11. I have created a Quizlet flashcard set to aid the students in studying the states and capitals. The quiz for this set of states and capitals will be Wednesday, May 25th.
Fractions of a Circle
We have started looking at circles and the relationship between fractions of a circle and degrees. The past 2 days, the students have used the idea of time to describe fractions of a circle. Using the relationship between 1/12 and 5 minutes, the students have been able to describe parts of a circle by the time elapsed. For example, a 1/4(3/12) turn clockwise of a circle would represent 15 minutes. We will use this idea to help us estimate the size of an angle and understand the relationship between acute, obtuse, straight, and right angles.
The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to identify the name of the classroom quilt we have made with Mrs. Deborah. Zach Schlepp's name, "It's Raining Hearts" was chosen by the majority of the class as the name for our quilt. We will finish the quilt next week and then present the quilt to Ronald McDonald House for the quilt to be given to a family who is use the house as a place to stay. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning.
