The students continue to build their skills on finding text evidence to support a claim or answer a question. I have tried to help out the best I can by identifying the specific paragraphs students can find information for each answer. I have also identified which answers will not be found in the text and will not be required to have a highlight. I am hoping this helps students with finding information in the text as this is a valuable reading skill for life.
Marven of the Great North Woods
We started reading the fiction selection for the Central Region in our Lead21 books. This is another great fiction selection depicting what life was life for a boy in the early 1900s in Duluth, Minnesota. As the students learned today, the eldest boy in families were often sent off to safe places if they were in an area stricken by influenza. The students were very taken aback by this idea and were not sure how they would manage if they were to be sent off to an unfamiliar place at their age. The character in this book, Marven, is sent to a French lumber camp and is given specific jobs he must complete every day. I look forward to reading the remainder of this text with the students as it is a great book in showing how you can have courage when you are left on your own.
Equivalent Fractions and Comparing Fractions
WOW! We are already through our first fraction unit. The students will have one more day to finish any assignments or review their fractions skills in class. We will have an assessment on Wednesday for these two skills.
Assignments
The end of the quarter will be this Thursday. I will not accept any late work on Tuesday and I will not be printing out missing assignment reports as students have been checking their work all quarter. My grade book is currently up to date with everything that has been handed in to me. If a student attempted to turn in a Google Classroom assignment that was incomplete, I marked it as missing even if they submitted the assignment. As I told the kiddos, I will gladly give each student feedback for what they turn in to me; however, I will not give feedback if the assignment if the student does not attempt to submit quality work. The assignment notebook code is for you to identify if your student has any missing work or any concerns with the assignments. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
