Reading Log Changes
The students have will be visualizing for their reading log entry at home. When someone visualizes, they experience what they are reading in the book through what they would see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. The students have done a great job with pulling out visualization key words and then identifying what they experienced based on the key words. I look forward to experiencing what each student reads this week.

Comparing Fractions using Benchmarks
We looked at comparing fractions using the benchmark fractions 1/2, 1/4, and 1/3. I am very impressed that they students have really come to understand fractions and what might be more than a half and less than a half. We used that understanding today to help us compare 2 fractions with unlike denominators. For example, 2/6 and 6/10. The students identified that 2/6 is less than half and 6/10 is more than half; therefore, 6/10 is more than 2/6.

Types of Energy
As taken from the PLTW Energy Conversions Activity 2 Introduction:
"Energy, and the conversion of energy to different forms, is all around you. The cars on the road, the refrigerator that keeps your food fresh, even the device you may be reading this on all need energy.
Your body also uses energy. The food you eat contains energy that your body stores and uses later when you run, play, and even when you rest. Your body needs energy throughout the day and night for growth and repair.
Energy is needed for many things we use every day. We heat and cool our homes, ride in cars and buses, and watch television. All of these require the use of some form of energy. How do we get the energy we need for our daily tasks?
In this activity you will observe several types of energy conversion and learn about forms of energy including light, thermal, electrical, mechanical, chemical, and nuclear."

The above passage is the introduction the students received for this week's PLTW activity. We have learned about all the forms of energy and will be creating a small inquiry project on one form of energy during our science time on Thursday and Friday. The assignment notebook code is for the students to identify one fact they learned today about energy. The link will lead you to the Types of Energy presentation. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to great day of learning!
