What is Heritage?
Students previewed our first unit today as we looked at the informational text piece, "What is Heritage?" The students learned that we are going to learn about heritage by looking at food, dance, and music from other cultures. Many students started talking about special family recipes and traditions that are part of their family heritage. Please look for a note next Tuesday regarding how you can help your student learn about their family heritage.
KidBlog
Students will show their understanding of the targeted reading strategies as they respond to a KidBlog post. Students will be given an article to read and then questions to respond to on our classroom KidBlog. If you would like access to your students KidBlog page, please send me an email so that I can give you the access code. Today, the students read the article "Message in a Bottle Gets Delivered after 101 Years!" The article tells about a bottle was found by fishermen that had a message that is over a 100 years old. All of the students were impressed that a message could be legible after one hundred years. We will reread the article tomorrow as a class and create a response blog to the questions listed at the end of the article.
Sentence Fragments- Daily Code
It is my hope that students will leave this year with an understanding of our English language and how they can use an understanding of grammar to write fluently. The students learned the difference between a complete sentence and a sentence fragment. We discussed the importance of including the subject (who) and the predicate (what happens) in every sentence. The code for tonight is for students to write a complete sentence from the sentence fragment: Went to the park. The students should identify that this fragment is missing the subject of the sentence. I hope you all have a wonderful night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
