The students were given one of three problems that the engineers had to solve before they could build the dam. The problems were: 1.) What do we do with the Colorado River while building the dam? 2.) What shape do we make the dam? 3.) How do we quickly cool the dam? The students put their thinking caps on and came up with some very thoughtful solutions. I was very impressed with all the ideas the students had and many of the students presented the same solution that was used to build the dam.
The Great Kapok Tree
Many students were very surprised with how many creatures rely on the kapok tree. The students finished reading about all the rainforest animals today during our whole group reading. After reading, the students did a great job synthesizing the information by stating that we should really be aware of the trees we cut down as we all rely on the rainforest. Secondly, the students researched how a rainforest animal of their choice relied on the kapok tree. After finding this information, the students created a Google Drawing to show how many more animals rely on the existence of the kapok trees in the rainforest. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to identify one piece of information they found while researching their animal. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
