The students continued studying text structure today as we looked at the format of a reading passage that shows cause and effect. We discussed that authors use the signal words because, since, one reason, and as a result to show what caused something to happen. As a class, we analyzed the structure of a passage so that we could understand authors show what happened and what the event happened. Tomorrow we will look at an informational passage that shows a problem and solution relationship.
Pattern Block Fractions
WOW! I love teaching math to this group of kiddos! They are so very excited about what we learn and are constantly looking for patterns within the context of the concepts we are learning. Today the students used patter blocks to look at what fraction can represent a given shape when the idea of a whole is changed. Our conversation was so rich in understanding that we ran out of time before we could finish our lesson. We will finish the last portion of the lesson today before moving onto creating posters that demonstrate our understanding of all the lessons we experienced this week.
Irregular Verbs
We continue learning about verbs through looking at the "rules" with irregular verbs. As the students so eloquently said, "THERE ARE NO RULES." As I told the kiddos, you just have to memorize the verbs that choose to follow the rules.
Writing Summaries
We have been focusing on writing short, yet succinct summaries this week as a way to differentiate a summary from a retell. I want the kiddos to have a true understanding of the difference as the students who understand the main idea of a passage can determine the purpose of the passage and determine if it is beneficial for their learning. This will come into play as students research and look for answers to questions. The assignment notebook code is for the students to summarize what we read in Stone Fox today. The students should mention that the big race started. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day in learning!
