Heritage: My Name is Celia
Today the students started to learn how we can share our heritage. We have learned how we can experience heritage the last couple of weeks, we have now started to learn how we can share our heritage. During reading rotations, students read about how we can share our heritage through reading stories. The students started to learn about a Cuban singer, Celia Cruz, during our whole group reading. The students were very excited about this selection as we will have the opportunity to hear the story read in English and in Cuban, Celia's native language. We will learn how Celia shared her heritage through music and made impacted many lives through her singing.

The students identified 2 words that do not follow the spelling rules, the word truth has the oo sound without using any of the aforementioned rules and the word young has the short u sound using ou as the combination that makes the short u sound.
Introduction to Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Energy Collisions
I love the cheers that come when the students hear it is time for science! We started our PLTW Energy Collisions unit today. The students read the story introduction that posed the challenge question for the students. The students are tasked with creating a restraint system for an egg so that the egg does not fall out of the car and crack. Below you will see the trials for each test run we performed in class today. The assignment notebook code is for the students to summarize what they found happening with each trial. Please note: I do not expect you to write a detailed summary for this code. You can simply write, restraint, which is what the students discovered was the problem with our egg. I hope you all have a wonderful night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
