The week is off to a great start! We reviewed analogies as well as practiced making text connections and identifying fact/opinion as we read. With our next story, we will be reviewing questioning as a way to monitor and assess our comprehension while we read. As we dig into persuasive writing, students have been introduced to two different models to help guide their thinking and planning before they begin to write. Both the stoplight and OREO method will help them organize their topic, provide details and incorporate examples. Students will begin by writing a persuasive paragraph followed by a multiple paragraph essay.
Division continues to be the focus this week as students look to build on to problems with two dividends. Students will be working with three digit and possibly even 4 digit dividends by the end of the week. So far they have used the standard algorithm to solve problems, however they will soon be adding another strategy to their list.
In science we will continue to look at potential and kinetic energy as students prepare to build their cars and design a safety restraint for their egg. Also, look for more information regarding the science fair to be sent home tomorrow!
Biography reports will be due on Friday, February 6. Look for the poster tomorrow in the Tuesday envelope along with more information regarding the expectations.
