What a great way to end the week! The students had many opportunities today to convey their understandings of topics we have covered so far this year.
The students started the day off researching the traditional food that is part of their heritage. The students will spend the next couple weeks researching the food, celebrations/holidays, interesting facts, and other ideas tied to the heritage of their country of origin. Some students did not have their family trees and family recipes ready for today. I did inform them this was part of their grade and they would need to bring this for next week.
We learned about the verb elaborate for our word of the day. The students discussed how we can add detail in order to elaborate on various assignments and tasks throughout the day.
We finished the day with the students taking their Place-Value test. So far, I am impressed with the quick overview I have done of everyone's test. We are ready to dive into addition and subtraction in the weeks to come.
The assignment notebook code for today is for your student to tell you what sound the word scold makes. Many students missed this for the spelling test today. Although the o in scold does not have anything to make it a long o, the sound you hear is still the long o sound. Please make sure to write your student's response in their assignment notebook as I use this as a way to gain feedback on what students have learned
