We made it through another great day, and it's hard to believe the school week is already over half done! We continued with summarizing (code: SUM it up!) what we read with the challenge of limiting the number of words to less than 12. We practiced SUM it up - S: Shorter than the text, U: Use your own words, M: Main idea only. After completing the SRI test students had a few minutes to wrap up any loose ends with their inquiry projects in preparation for their presentations beginning on Friday. In math we reviewed conversions while solving word problems as well as worked on solving problems including money (making change, total cost). The day slipped away from us as the SRI test took longer than expected which meant a quick review of nouns, proper and common, rather than beginning our cinquain poems.
Happy New Year! We were busy beavers today getting back in the swing of things! First on the agenda is to wrap up our inquiry projects for Unit 3. Our plan is to present our projects starting at the end of this week. We continued to work on summarizing in our reading rotations as well as took our unit 3, week 3 assessment. In science we are completing a paper airplane project following the engineering steps similar to what we will be working with when we begin PLTW next week. It's a great intro to it, and we all had fun making and flying our first round of airplanes. Looking forward to the modifications and changes groups will come up with in hopes of flying their plane the farthest!
