What are traditions? How do traditions differ between cultures? This week students will begin our last unit of reading, "Past, Present, and Future." Students will learn how we can look at the heritage of others and ourselves to better understand each other. The students were sent home with the packet for this month's research project, "Heritage Museum." As described in the packet, the "Heritage Museum" will provide students an opportunity to learn about their ancestors as well as gain an appreciation for the traditions, celebrations, etc. that are part of one's family unit. Please read the packet sent home at the beginning of the week, complete the half sheet questionnaire, and return the questionnaire to school no later than Monday, May 1st. We will begin our research on Monday as our Heritage Museum will be Wednesday, May 24th.

Precision is the buzz word this week in math. Students continue to work on their skills with measuring angles as they must use their protractor precisely as a means to get the correct measure of an angle. Students will look at how to measure angles that are part of a circle as well as use their understanding of joining/separating angles to determine the measure of an unknown angle. Students will have a knowledge demonstration on Wednesday for chapter 11. We will then move onto multiplying fractions.
Science
Assignment:
Activity 5 Food Bank Problem
Students will continue our research with simple machines as a means to solve our tasked problem of moving food off of a food bank truck. The students will need to use at least 1 simple machine in their design. This week the students will use both days to build a model to solve the Food Bank Truck problem.
Weekly Code
The first code is for students to identify one key detail they learned last week during our small group reading. The second task for this week's code is for students to give a brief summary of their narrative non-fiction bully story. I look forward to a wonderful week of learning.
