How can science help you understand how things work?
Today we launched the weekly theme focusing on how we can explain our world using science. The students discussed how we can use science to help us understand how we remain in our seats during a roller coaster ride. The small groups that met today discussed how science inspired George Ferris to build the Ferris wheel for the World's Fair in Chicago. The students will continue with this theme the rest of this week and finish next week.
Multiplying by tens, hundreds, and thousands
Analyzing equations and looking for patterns will become an essential skill as we move on in math to multiplication and division skills. The students realized that when multiplying by multiples of 10, you simply multiply using the basic fact and then add the number of zeros because of our base-ten system. The assignment notebook code for tonight is fro the students to explain the similarities between 5 x 60 = , 5 x 600 = , and 5 x 600 = . They should also be able to tell you the products, or answers, to each equation. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!

REMINDER: Tomorrow is the N.I.L.E. Ag. Ed. field trip. Please make sure each student comes to school with a sack lunch and wears clothes that are appropriate as we will be outside and walking around.
