It was so wonderful seeing everyone during our Open House this past Thursday. I appreciate all of the excellent conversations I had with parents and I look forward to a wonderful year we will have together. If you were unable to make it to our presentation, please review the Google Slide presentation and email if you have any questions.
Morning Meetings
Each day, our class starts out the day beginning our day with a social focus as well as discussing our academic objectives. This week, I will be focusing on kindness. We will watch the video I have attached to this blog as well as read the book Miss. Rumphius. We will discuss how we can spread kindness in the lives of others as well as how we can approach a situation that conflicts with our desire to spread kindness to all. We will focus on the importance of understanding all people's perspective, using kind words, give people their space, and communicate with adults when the problem persists.
Reading
This week our reading focus will be Think of Others: How do our actions effect others? Students will read 2 realistic fiction books regarding how our actions impact how others feel. We will discus how we can take the initiative to seek positive outcomes in all we do.
Math
Building our foundation for developing strong number sense will continue this week as students gain a deeper understanding of regrouping with adding and subtracting. Students will continue using the strategies for comparing numbers as well as rounding numbers. As we finish this week, students will have an opportunity to show what they know with a place-value chapter 1 test.
Writing
Our first writing genre we focus on in fourth-grade is a personal narrative. The first personal narrative the students will write will be about a small, special moment that happened this summer. Students will revise their story by adding an engaging lead, "juicy" details, "strong" action verbs, and detailed dialogue.
Weekly Code
The weekly code is an opportunity for students to discuss what they are learning during the week. Once students have discussed the answer with you, write their answer in their assignment notebooks.
1. What is your topic of your personal narrative? Describe how you have revised your paragraph.
2. How can you use the regrouping strategy to solve the following problem: 4,521 - 678?
