As this week is winding down, I wanted to send out a thank you to all parents as your love and support so far this year has been amazing. Each student has grown so much this year and I am so proud of all they have accomplished. I hope you are able to enjoy family, take in the laughter, and take in the moments with each other. We have many learning adventures that await us in the coming year. One of those adventures is personal, I wanted to announce that my family will be adding another little one to our adventure crew this coming June. We are all so very excited for the adventures that await us with a family of 4. May your days this break be filled with much merriment and joy.

This week we will focus on the theme of helping the community. Our essential question for the week is: In what ways can you help your community? The students will be reading 2 stories of children who show how they helped their community even when it was difficult. We will be analyzing the parts of a realistic fiction text focusing on how the author describes each event, character, and setting. Additionally, we will look at a narrator's point of view and how this shows us how the narrator thinks and feels in regards to the main idea. Math We continue our adventures in division. The students are continuing to do well with division as we focus on the true meaning of what we are doing when we divide and what each part of the division equation represent. This week we will focus on using our number sense to divide each place-value, known as partial quotient. We will use our understanding of groups of to multiply in order to get close to the amount we are dividing up. The students will also be introduced to the long-division algorithm using our place-value blocks as a means to truly understand what is taking place for each step. Writing I am so very impressed with how students have developed as writers. The students have finished their second personal narrative and will have a chance to share their personal narrative this week during our Author's Chair time. We will also begin our animal projects as we research a chosen animal and write an expository text using text features as well as descriptive supporting details. The students will be coming home with a document this week explaining their expectations and the timeline we will follow for this project. I hope you all have a fantastic week. I look forward to all to all of the learning adventures that await our fourth-grade explorers. |
