Welcome Ms. Deleon!
During the fall semester, Madalyn Deleon will join our class fulfilling her hours for her junior practicum. Ms. Deleon will grow as a teacher as she gets the opportunity to teach each student. Ms. Deleon was a high school student in my classroom 4 years ago as a career teacher. It is a great honor to have Madalyn in our classroom as she works towards attaining her teacher's license.
Reading
This week students will focus on how science helps us understand the world around us. We will focus our attention specifically on motion. Students will read narrative non-fiction texts to learn about our world around us. Additionally, students will start Reading Boost rotations. The first 2 weeks of Reading Boost will focus on allowing students to build a foundation on inferring using evidence from a text.
Math
I am very impressed with the growth students have shown already in understanding place-value. We will continue to attain proficiency in place-value understanding. This week we will move on to establishing a strong foundation in multiplication. Students will look at how to use multiplication to compare values. We will also look at non-standard algorithms we can use to fluently multiply multi-digit numbers by single-digit numbers.
Writing
Students will develop skills in taking part in a peer review. During peer reviews, students will first make compliments towards their peer's paper, make suggestions, and finally make corrections. We will apply these skills this week as we finalize our revisions with the summer short paragraph. This paragraph will be due Friday as we will begin our longer personal narrative next week.
Weekly Code:
1. Students will need to write the equation to match this statement: 54 is how many times more than 9? The answer is 54 = 6 x 9.
2. As students dive deeper into making inference, we will discuss the 3 parts to an inference. They are text evidence + background knowledge which leads to an infernece.Students will need to identify the 3 parts to a of=
