Heritage Museum
Students are well on their way to completing their Heritage Museum Project. Students will need to have their Family Interview completed by Wednesday in order to compete the paragraph(s) that will be part of our Google Slide presentation.
Reading
An archeology mindset will be important for students this week as we answer the essential question: Why is it important to keep a record of the past? Students will read the journals from children from the past that were part of different cultures. We will use these journal entries to find out about our nation's history. Additionally, students will learn about Ellis Island using the Scholastic Teacher's Website for Ellis Island.
Math
Students will complete the unit on measurement this week as we look at how to convert the customary system, the metric system, and units of time. A way in which I celebrate all we have learned is to give students the opportunity to create a game board that we will play during the last week of school. The students will have the opportunity to pair up with a classmate or work on their own. Students will begin the project by identifying the type of game they will create and the objective of the game. Then students will write the directions for their game after analyzing directions for games created by others. I will inform students that it is important to not ask their parents to buy anything more than $5.00 for this project. I would like the students to be creative and reuse items from home.
Science
Students will be introduced to the coding app they will use during PLTW lessons in fifth-grade, Tynker. Student will create a simple game within the app as they are introduced to the user interface.
Pompey's Pillar Field Trip
We will be going on our field trip this Tuesday. Please make sure all students have water bottles, sunscreen, appropriate clothing, hats, and a well-balanced lunch. We will leave school promptly at 8:30 and then return between 1:30 and 2:00.
Field Day
Please make sure that students come to school prepared for field day on Friday of this week. Students showed wear clothing they can play in based on the weather forecast for the day. Additionally, please make sure students have a water bottle for the day.
Weekly Code

2. Students will explain the purpose of the game they are creating during math.
