Heritage- Who You Are
Students read today how we can experience heritage by sharing the food we eat. The students read how hummus and falafel is an integral part to the Arabic diet. I share with the students some hummus so that they could get a taste of a common snack in Arabic countries. Many of the students enjoyed the hummus and asked for the recipe. We will finish the week off with learning how we can share our heritage through recreation and sports.
Students worked today on the MT State Standard 4.NBT.1 which asks the students to recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. Students were asked to "rename" a number. For example, students needed to identify that in the number 150, there are 15 tens. Many students understand this concept if they use a model; however, they are struggling with reasoning abstractly and coming up with a way to rename the number using mental strategies. We will continue coming back to this concept as we move on to addition and subtraction, especially when we need to regroup a within a number.
Google Classrooms- Daily Code
I will be using the Google management system, Google Classrooms, to assign written work. The students were introduced to Google Classrooms today as they had to create a poster that showcases the science career they read about on Monday. As with most activities that introduce technology, we did not get as far as we wanted; however, the students started to explore how to use the Google Drawing tool. The daily code for tonight is for the students to summarize what they were able to create using the Google Drawing software. If you want they to show you their drawing, have them sign into the Student D2 Documents/Drive account through the district sign-in page. Then have the students open their Google Drawing (they may have to search for it using the key words "What is a Scientist"). Once your students has summarized their drawing or shown you their drawing, write Google Drawing in the assignment notebook. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another wonderful day of learning!
