Most students started using their Typing Club accounts today during our writing time. The students will practice typing once a week during reading rotations on Thursday. Students are expected to be able to type a one page, double spaced paper by the end of fourth grade. We will practice typing using Typing Club and typing all of our essays on the Chromebook. May students were excited that they could access their accounts at home. They can do this by going to typingclub.com and signing in using their district D2Apps(gmail) account.
Math
Students were given time to finish their unit 1 assessment today. I am very impressed with what I have seen thus far, and I look forward to correcting the test so I can celebrate with all students regarding their mathematics accomplishments. We will start multiplying by 1-digit numbers tomorrow.
My Name is Celia
We have learned that we can experience heritage by reading a story about someone's life. The students learned how Celia Cruz experienced segregation in Cuba when she was not allowed to enter singing competitions. Furthermore, they learned how Celia came to live in the states because of the revolution in Cuba. Students will continue to learn how Celia shared her heritage through salsa dancing and singing.
PLTW: Energy Conversion
SCIENCE TIME! The students learned how they can described motion and the potential for something to move as we learned about potential and kinetic energy. Below are the slides I used to discuss potential and kinetic energy. The students finished the lesson by looking at how we can understand potential and kinetic energy with a skateboard simulator. The link for the simulator is at the end of the slide show. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to give an example of either potential or kinetic energy. If they are struggling, have them use the slide show for support. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
