After our conversation on Monday, the class has had improved behavior. We still have reminders to behave; however, this is manageable. The students are all very excited to keep learning! We will have a great rest of the year!
The Great Kapok Tree
Students have enjoyed learning the importance of the kapok tree through the eyes of rainforest animals. We learned the importance of the kapok tree for the snakes, bees, and monkeys. Each animal relies on the tree for shelter. The class made a great connection that humans and animals in the rainforest are interdependent; therefore, we should protect these trees. I look forward to finishing this book as there are many lessons to be gained from the animals of the rainforest.
Joining Angles
Angles can be broken apart and combined. Today the students created angles and then divided these angles into sections in order to understand that a whole angle can be made of smaller angles. The students enjoyed this lesson and had fun measuring smaller parts of a larger angle. We will have an assignment tomorrow so every student can demonstrate their mastery of this standard.
Southwest Region
Our travels have taken us to 3 destinations in the Southwest region. The students have learned about the mesas in Monument Valley. We have traveled to Phoenix in order to gain an understanding of the 3 A's that made Phoenix a populated city. Finally, we traveled to Hoover Dam to learn why the government built Hoover Dam. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to identify one detail they have learned about any of the 3 places we have traveled. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
