NWEA Reading Assessment
The students started the last round of assessments for the fall. We will finish off our assessments with the NWEA assessments in reading, mathematics, and language. I am so proud of all the work each student is putting into these assessments. The students were troopers today as we tried to muddle through the network issues we were having as we attempted to start our tests. I am hopeful that tomorrow will bring better luck with network issues.
Word of the Day
The students started our word of the day (WOD) routine today. We will be learning about a word each day through looking at the part of speech, the syllabication, the origin of the word, synonyms, antonyms, examples, and definitions. The students came up with a quick celebration we will use every time any word of the day is used. We will also celebrate a student's findings when they find a word of the day in any text they are reading. Our word of the day today was critical. We discussed critical events that require an immediate response. If you would like to visit our Word of the Day blog, you may do so by clicking on the Word of the Day page on the classroom website menu bar.
Place-Value Forms
We continued looking at how to say and read numbers in different forms today in math. The students have mastered writing numbers in expanded form. We are now going to focus writing numbers after reading or hearing a word said and visa-versa. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to write the number form of fifty thousand, forty-nine. The students need to make sure to use zeros in this number and not write 5,49. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
