My Name is Celia
SUGAR! The theme of sugar in coffee spanned through the entire story about Celia's life. Today we learned that Celia would think of her heritage and family every time she said sugar and would also greet the people in her audience with sugar so that they could think of their Cuban heritage. We learned how Celia shared her Cuban heritage and brought Salsa music and dancing to the United States. The students watched a performance of Celia's today. We were all very impressed with the beauty of her music and her ability to dance so well. This link will take you to the video the students watched today in class.
Chapter 2 Show What You Know
I can tell the students are excited for multiplication because they were asking for their chapter 2 multiplication textbooks at the beginning of the day. The students completed the show what you know today so that I can determine what I need to review before we begin our multiplication unit. Many students struggled with remembering how we use multiplication arrays and basic multiplication facts. I have included the links to 2 websites below the students can go to tonight to help with the review.
Space Arrays
Sheppard Software Multiplication Games
Mrs. Deborah
We were all very excited to see Mrs. Deborah today so we could learn about different quilts. The students were able to see various forms of quilts and see the difference between a hand stitched quilt and a machine stitched quilt.
Different Kinds of Maps
Students learned today how different maps have different purposes. The students read in their social studies book that maps either show natural features or human made features. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to identify the purpose of each of the maps below. The map to the left is a political map because it shows the boundaries of all the countries in our world. The map to the right shows the natural elevation features of the world, therefore making it an elevation map. I hope you all have a wonderful night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
