It has been so energizing to see the students enjoy the book clubs. All students will be participating in book clubs for the remainder of the year as part of our reading rotations. There are many roles the students will have throughout their time in a book club. The roles are: Predictor, Word Challenger, Visualizer, Summarizer, Connector, and Detailer. Each role revolves around the comprehension strategies we have mastered throughout the year. The students will need to predict, identify "juicy" important vocabulary, visualize, summarize, make connections, and identify important details. There will be assignments with each role; however, there will no longer be the reading log that the students have completed throughout this year.
Degrees of a Circle
Round and round, and up and down! We learned today why we have the measurement of a degree and how we can classify all types of angles less than 180 degrees. The students began the lesson with connecting our lesson on 1/12 of a circle to 1/360 of a circle. We learned that we can use 1/360 as a fraction of the whole circle. Furthermore, we discussed that the "angleologists" have determined that 1/360 of a circle is 1 degree. With this knowledge, we were able to determine the degrees that represent 1/4 of a circle, 1/3 of a circle, and so on. The students are very excited to be given a protractor tomorrow so they can start measuring angles. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to identify the measure of an angle that takes up 42/360 of a circle. HINT: 1/360 = 1 degree. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
