Living Green- How can we protect Earth's Resources?
The students were introduced to natural resources, renewable and nonrenewable energy today as we started the next Lead21 unit on Living Green. We began our lesson by looking a picture with the topic of water contamination. The students were given the opportunity to identify the important details and infer what the author was trying to tell us. Here is a link that will take you to all of the pictures, videos, and text we will be using to help us better understand the theme question. The students started to gain an understanding of how our water is contaminated and started to wonder if the water treatment plants are able to clean the water of all the contaminates. We will continue asking these questions and looking at how we can make our world a better place to live.
Energy Collision Apps
The students reviewed potential and kinetic energy today as they were introduced to the iPad apps listed below. Both of these apps are free; however, I could not find these apps in the Google Play store. I was very impressed with how the students were able to identify moments of potential energy and kinetic energy.

Multiplicative Comparison
The students reviewed and completed the worksheet for multiplicative comparison today in class. We continued to discuss how we can use multiplication to help us compare numbers and events in our daily lives. If students are struggling with multiplicative comparison, they can use the GoMath Personal Trainer or they can go to this website to get more practice. We will continue practicing this skill throughout the year as we learn more about multiplication. The assignment notebook code tonight is for the students to write the following statement in a multiplication problem:
45 is 9 times as many as 5. The students should write the multiplication problem 45=9x5. I hope you all have a great night tonight. I will be gone tomorrow for a math training and the students will get to learn from Mrs. McKenzie.
