Mixed Numbers
We are one our way to mastering fourth grade fractions. The students were introduced to how to convert an improper fraction (5/2) to a mixed number (2 1/2). Using models is one of the mathematic practices students need to understand so they can easily explain their thinking. We used fraction bars today to show how we can represent 5/2 as 2 wholes and 1/2. The students quickly caught on and are ready for our Mimio Vote lesson and assignment tomorrow.
The Bank of Mrs. Gray
After a lot of reflecting and work this weekend, I rolled out the Bank of Mrs. Gray. The roll out took much more time than I had anticipated, which is why we did not get to everything today. The students first spent their money from last quarter from the various Gray Pay coupons. The students have the dates they can use the coupons and are responsible for remembering. After spending our money, I introduced "THE BANK OF MRS. GRAY." The students were given their own "credit card" in exchange for money. I will be using stickers on the back of the cards instead of money as many students misplaced their money last quarter. The students will need to have at least $200 by next Friday as we will be getting the field trip permission slip for our MT History trip to Pompey's Pillar. The assignment notebook code is for the students to summarize the new and improved system. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning.
