Oh my! I had many meetings this week and forgot to blog when I got home. We had a wonderful week of learning!
Unit 4 Inquiry Project
The students are coming along with their unit 4 inquiry space research. The students brainstormed what we can write a skit about and finished their research. The students will be responsible for creating a digital, interactive poster using ThingLink and presenting a skit that will share their research. I am very impressed with all the work the students have done so far.
Fractions
We are now diving into the world of fractions. The students have already made the connection that fractions are similar to many concepts we learned in our division unit.
We started a challenge of sharing a given amount of cookies with a given amount of people in an equal way. The students first had the task of splitting 4 cookies with 4 people. Students easily shared 1 cookie per person. The students were then tasked with sharing 4 cookies with 5 people. After many discussions, we are close to understanding we need to split the cookies so that 5 can "go into" the number of pieces we break each cookie into. The students were left today with not knowing the answer to the problem. We will continue this activity on Monday.
Energy Transfer
Our PLTW unit that we are focusing on is Energy Conversion. We discussed today how we transfer energy so we can have energy ourselves. The students discussed how we need to eat in order to have energy. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to identify the energy transfer process we discussed today. We looked at how the sun gives energy to plants to produce their own energy, we then eat plants or animals that eat plants in order to have energy to move. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to another great week of learning!
