I am so very thankful for all of the wonderful Christmas gifts I received from the whole class and individual students. To say I feel appreciated and loved is an understatement. I have enjoyed the treats and gifts during my break!
Reminders:
We will be going to the Moss Mansion this Thursday. I will have an informational flyer in the Tuesday folders explaining the cost. We will be gone from 9:00 to 11ish. I will need 1 chaperone to help out with.
Atlantic States
The students will be completing the unit 3 Atlantic States in the following weeks. We will work on our inquiry projects as well as mastering the reading strategies we have discussed this unit. The 4 major strategies we have discussed are predicting, determining importance, summarizing, and paraphrasing. This week's reading log asks the students to make a prediction, write a summary, and identify 1 important detail.
History Report
We started learning about reports today during our writing time. The students learned that a history report will focus on a major event that happened in the past. I have not identified the exact due date; however, I will take into consideration the fact that students will need to do research and go through the writing process in order to publish a professional document.
Spelling
This week the students continue to practice adding -ed and -ing to the end of a word. The three different categories we will be sorting this wee are no spelling change, final e dropped, and final consonant doubled.
Factors
The students started to learn about factors before the break and we continued using the skills acquired last week during math today. The students have learned that the answer to a multiplication problem is the product and the numbers you multiply together are the factors. We worked on using arrays to help us identify the factor pairs for a given product. We will continue using these skills as we learn about multiples, prime, and composite numbers. After we have these skills mastered, we will move onto division.
Restraint System
I am so very impressed with the restraint systems students have come up with in order to protect the egg during impact. The students will have one more day to finalize their restraint system and then the students will test the system on Friday. I look forward to seeing how many eggs are saved! The assignment notebook code today is for the students to identify the components of their restraint system. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
