Reminders:
All students have grown so very much in their reading abilities. I am very impressed with how each student is able to monitor their comprehension and relay their understanding of the text. This week we are focusing on making predictions and identifying cause/effect relationships in the text. While predicting, students are focusing on making a prediction before they read, while they read, and at the end of their reading.
Students are flexing their multiplication muscles this week as we multiply proper and mixed fractions. We will wrap up the week with understanding how this strategy can be used in a word problem. I am very impressed with each students understanding of fractions and how they can manipulate the fractions with multiplication. Although this strategy is not expected to be mastered until fifth grade, many students are able to multiply all forms of fractions.
We continued learning about the Midwest region in Social Studies today. The students learned how meatpacking and wheat crops are an essential component to the economy of Kansas. Furthermore, students learned the importance of Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse memorial in South Dakota. The states and capitals quiz for this region will be next Tuesday, March 17th. The code for tonight is for the students to identify the capital of Iowa. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another great day of learning!
- Science fair projects are due Thursday, March 26th. Students should be finalizing their projects this week and next. I will be grading each science fair project as part of quarter 3 grades.
- Junie B. Jones ABT Field Trip is next Wednesday the 18th. Please have all permission slips in before the 18th.
