Today was a day filled with exploration and review. Students were given more time to become familiar with the technology we will be using in our classroom throughout this year. There are many students who are becoming adept at using all of our different technology components.
Our first student word of the day video heritage was premiered today. August and her family made a great video showing part of their family's heritage. Please do take some time to look at the video on the Word of the Day blog in my website.
The students started to use Kid Blog this week as part of their response to reading. I will have information on how you can access your student's blog at Open House so that you can see what they are writing on a daily basis. It is critical that each student has the time to read and analyze a text. The posts through Kid Blog will allow each student to read and respond to a text.
We reviewed front in rounding/estimation today. The students do have homework covering this concept. It is essential that each student understands why they are going through a math procedure and not simply performing the procedure. Today we explored why we round to the lowest number with digits 0 through 4 and round to the highest number with digits 5 through 9.
Students learned about how dances are part of a person's heritage today. The students read about the Punjabi dance Bhangra, the Greek dance Ikariotikos, and the American Square Dance. The code for tonight is for you to watch the video(s) posted below with your student and have them tell you one fact about a dance of their choice.
Please do remember Picture Day is this Friday. If you have not sent in your picture money please do so by Friday. If you need another packet, email me and I will send one home tomorrow in your student's backpack.
