A lot has happened in the week and a half since I have last posted. I apologize I have not posted as I was busy taking care of Devin and then catching up from being gone. We are all back to being healthy. I hope you all had a relaxing break. We are now entering the last quarter of the year and I look forward to all the learning that will take place.
Testing:
Please make sure you schedule all appointments around testing as much as possible. We do have times for make ups; however, it is best if students are able to take the test with the entire class.

We have started the unit on Nature's Neighbors in our Lead21 reading curriculum. The students have learned how food chains and food webs show the transfer of energy from one living organism to another. The students have also discussed the classification of animals based on what they eat (i.e. herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores). We will continue learning about living organisms and how they are able to adapt to their environment. The inquiry project for this unit is for students to become an expert with an animal of their choice. The students will create a diorama or poster that displays the animals ecosystem. Additionally, students will create a product that they will use to present a 4 minute presentation on the research they have found on their animals. The students will have time to work on their presentation in class and will need to work on their poster/ diorama at home. I have not set a due date yet as I know we will have many interruptions with testing.
The students have started reviewing/learning about geometric shapes. We have used our understanding of angles and line segments to create regular polygons. The students have done a great job with connecting the relationship between angels, line segments, and polygons. The students started a presentation today showcasing how we use polygons in our everyday lives. The students will continue to add to this presentation as we discuss lines of symmetry and solid figures.
We have finally started our second PLTW unit on energy conversion. The students will lean about different way we use energy and how we can use simple machines to accomplish tasks. We will start our unit with building a bicycle that students will use to show how we can convert forms of energy.
The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to identify an attribute about themselves. I hope you all have a great night and I look forward to another wonderful day of learning!
