Reminders:
I am so very proud of all students in the classroom. We had a great day of learning and showing respect for each other. We are focusing on digital citizenship this week as we continue to use digital media to enhance our learning experience. The students have discussed their responsibilities as a digital citizen, how to identify valid information on-line, and what information is safe to share in our digital world.
We continue to dive deeper into subtracting as we discuss strategies for subtracting across zeros. The students are using place-value models to show what happens when you subtract. Many students understand how to model a subtraction problem using place-value symbols; however, students struggle when they are asked to use the traditional subtraction algorithm. I will continue to work with the class in transferring the understanding of the place-value model to the traditional subtraction algorithm.
The students discussed lines of longitude and latitude on a map during social studies. We discussed the importance of using these lines and what careers might utilize lines of latitude and longitude. The assignment notebook code for tonight is for the students to tell you what compass direction goes with lines of longitude and what compass directions go with lines of latitude. They should say that north and south go with lines of latitude and east and west go with lines of longitude.
