We have had a busy couple of days with 'extras' - Spelling Bee, speaker from YAM, NAEP testing and rearranged daily schedules to accommodate the 'extras'! Of course they were all well worth it, but getting back on track helps us all! Next week, however will throw some more changes at us as we have a shortened school week with a half-day Thursday with our Valentine's celebration and no school Friday and Monday! Guess flexibility is a good thing!
Today we took a little time to review test taking skills and strategies. Each week students will continue to take an assessment covering the comprehensions skills/strategies as well as language skills covered the previous week. Tests are set up in a similar manner each week so hopefully reviewing together will be beneficial for everyone in the weeks to come! We are adding visualizing and the importance of imagery while we read. As a reader we need to remember to focus on the words describing what is being seen, heard, touched and smelled. Recognizing this in the text will hopefully carry over into our writing as well as remember the importance of detail.
In math we looked at multiples and explored finding common multiples as well as the least common multiple of number pairs. We will continue to review division and multiplication with number talks, an opportunity for students to discuss their thinking aloud and various approaches to solve a problem.
Science has finally brought us to the point of assembling our cars. Next we will predict the distance our cars will travel at various heights of the inclined plane. Lots of science excitement still to come! Remember to be working on the Science Fair project. The way the school year is going (too fast!), the end of March will be here before we know it!
**If you do not want individual pictures taken of your 4th grader, please sign and return the slip attached to the photo envelope! If this slip is not signed and returned, photos will be taken!
**MEMORY BOOK orders due Feb. 27
