We are well on our way to becoming fluid with our daily routines! The students have become excellent with helping each other out when we are working on our computers. Students have enjoyed being able to work on their assignments using computers and I have enjoyed being able to have the immediate feedback of how each student is comprehending the content.

Our reading comprehension focus this week is determining importance and looking at the author’s purpose. The students used their skills they have gained so far in determining the most important items needed to take in your purse while traveling. Students quickly understood the connection between the purse activity and finding the most important pieces of information while we read. We will continue to use this comprehension strategy throughout the year in our reading of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Our word of the day today was economy. The students had many great connections to their lives on how they have heard economy mentioned. We discussed how each region and culture has their own economy. I told the students to pay attention to how the word economy is used in the paper and in newscasts.

We were able to read the book Journey of Fallen Rock today. The assignment notebook code word for tonight is the item that Fallen Rock was able to successfully retrieve.

Starting this week, the students will get their homework for the entire week on Tuesdays. I look forward to seeing everyone at Open House this Thursday!
