I am so very impressed with the great reading conversations that we are having during our differentiated reading groups. The students have embraced discussing their thinking and truly understanding what they are reading.
Hurricanes have become our new weather fascination! The students and I are so very fascinated with this super storm and how it forms. We learned about how the rising of the air and the cool temperatures in the upper atmosphere cause the a tropical storm to begin which can lead to a hurricane. We will have the opportunity to meet with a meterologist from KULR-8, Erin Clanahan, tomorrow morning. The students are so very excited to gain more information about wind and hurricanes.
As we Journey through the United States in the book The Journey of Fallen Rock, we learn more about Fallen Rock's character and our country. The students read about Fallen Rocks journey across the plains and how he was able to successfully get a whisker from a mountain lion.
The students are finishing up their math menu, Place-Value Tic-Tac-To, this week. The students have chosen three projects that demonstrate their understanding of place-value and our base ten number system. The code word for tonight is for your student to tell you one project they are working on. Please have them describe the project; however, you do not have to write their description in the notebook. I truly enjoyed our learning experiences today and I look forward to extending our learning tomorrow!
